The fishing has been off the charts for the last 6 weeks and I don’t  see it slowing down anytime soon. The walleye have been scattered all over the lake moving in and out of spawning grounds on and off gravel bars or in current . We have been absolutely hammering them everywhere day and night . As we get into april the Alewives will start to spawn on the rocky shorelines at night . This will bring these deep water hunters up shallow for a short time. Anywhere you see large concentrations of spawning bait you can bet the walleyes are close by . Targeting them at night with jerk baits or even top water can be super productive this month. In the day time look for the walleye on ambush areas . Points , rock piles ,or down timber will help these fish hide while waiting on the bait to pass overhead. Typically the will be in 12 to 30ft of water depending on the weather conditions .

April is when we target big stripers . Big fresh caught baits are the trick . The bigger the alewife the better honestly . Pin them with a appropriate size circle hook then utilizing an planer board position them in shallow water . Moving slowly pull the baits through fishy areas and hold on . These areas include the backs of the creeks early then major main lake points after mid morning.  When targeting big fish please take the time and care needed to safely release them so this awesome fishery can sustain itself.
